Center & Ground
A simple grounding exercise to help your staff breathe, reset, and start the year steady.

This four-week mindfulness practice gives your staff a simple breathing or grounding technique to focus on each week.
Why try it
The start of a school year brings a lot of energy and a lot of demands all at once. This practice gives staff a small, repeatable way to stay centered through the transition. Each week introduces one technique with a clear focus, so the habit builds naturally over the month without asking much of anyone.

Instructions
Share the week's practice
At the start of each week, post or send the week's prompt using the included printable. Display it in the staff lounge, drop it in the newsletter, or read it aloud at a morning meeting, and leave it somewhere visible so staff can return to it throughout the week. You can also print the lounge cards and place them around the staff room for easy, low-key reminders.
Try it yourself first
Run through the week's technique before sharing it with staff. Modeling it in a brief staff gathering or morning check-in helps it land as an invitation rather than an assignment.
Move to the next week
Each week introduces a new technique. Rotate through all four over the course of August.
Activity variations
Adapt to fit your school's vibe, budget, and setting.
Grounding breath
Plant both feet on the floor and breathe in slowly, feeling rooted and strong. Focus: stability and focus.
Morning moment
Before the day begins, take one deep breath and picture calm confidence carrying you through. Focus: preparedness and peace.
Release and reset
After a long day, roll your shoulders and take three slow breaths. Let go of what's outside your control. Focus: calm transition.
Center of calm
Picture a small point of calm at your center. With each breath, let it grow steadier. Focus: inner steadiness.
