Why try it
This activity keeps conversations going naturally throughout a PD day, without requiring staff to sit in a circle or answer on the spot. Staff move at their own pace, meet people across grade levels and departments, and leave knowing a little more about the people they work with.

Instructions

Set up the challenge
Print one tracking sheet per staff member and explain the goal: meet as many colleagues as possible, and for each person, write down one thing they have in common and one thing that's different. The person who fills in the most rows wins.

Let it run
Staff mingle and fill out their sheets throughout the PD. This works as a morning opener or as an all-day challenge with a prize at the end.

Announce a winner
At a natural stopping point, ask who completed the most rows and give a small prize. A quick shout-out works just as well as a tangible reward.

Short version
